Rokan Kadro is a Syrian-American artist, born in Staten Island and now based in Brooklyn. Working in a wide range of media and genres, Kadro draws inspiration from the visual library of her own heritage and upbringing while regularly entwining elements of Japanese popular culture within her work. Kadro’s paintings and drawings present moody, often abstract landscapes and narrative scenes that are packed with carefully applied brushstrokes and dreamy worlds. Her textile and fashion works seem to bring her 2D works to life: every piece lives in harmony within Kadro’s œuvre, as if originating from the same far-off world. Fantasy and medieval elements play a large part in her work’s visual construction.
